Arnst, the champion sculler, is putting in some solid work on Nelson Harbour preparing for his race against Whelch at Akaroa. He speaks in high terms of local conditions for rowing. The large stretch of water available provides a good rowing course, with a chance of obtaining both rough and smooth water, which- gives the oarsman an opportunity to become skilled in all branches. Manukatt Y&cht Club, and towards this end £60 w*« subscribed at one meeting, while subscription lilts were opened. Last evening a concert in aid of the fund was tendered by yachtsmen and friends at the Foresters' Hall, when the attendance wm very large. Mr. Jack Park made a nrat-elaiM stage manager, while Mr. Arthur Curbines acted as accompanist. The programme wits supplied by leading, Auckland talent, each item being enthusiastically received.
