OIL AT GISBORE.
A SATISFACTORY REPORT. [BY TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Gisborne, Monday. Satisfactory progress is disclosed in a report Mr. W. I). Lysnar, chairman of the Gifiborne Oil Company, received today from the company's manager (Mr. McDonald). On Saturday afternoon, says the report, the well had reached a depth of 973 ft, the six days' boring thus resulting in a substantial progress to the extent of 129 ft. At 939 ft a further improvement was obtained in the formation, and at 945 ft sandstone was again struck containing gas. This, the chairman states, is the first strong indication obtained since the well entered this strata of pug clay, which caused such difficulty recently. The fact is a significant one, since it indicates that the bore has certainly not passed below the oil-bearing country.
