CONTROL OF DEER.

The Council of the Otago Acclimatisation Society, at its meeting to-day, considered , a proposal to the Government by Messn. E. Hardcastle and R. Hay, and the Ew. ; W. C. Oliver, to place the North Otago deer herd under * the management, of ;a 1 board, on which t,ho Government should be represented. Alternatively, it w« , suggested that the present dual control « by the Otago and Waitaki Societies be terminated. 1 ■ : The council passed a resolution strongly protesting against the course suggested, and expressed surprise at the arrogance ,j and lack of courtesy on the part of the persons in question in approaching the : Government while members of the ad- •; visory committee, without consulting their colleagues, who had no knowledge of V their intentions. The resolution further , detailed 1 the steps taken by the Otago, j Society to conserve the herd, and con-, cluded as follows :— "The society further objects to the control of its deer for being handed over to any board compr.s* ing persons from another province, * ® have shown little aptitude in the control i and management of their own herd.
