TURKISH CITY HOAXED.
From Salon comes a report that the entire town was for several days taken in by a swindler, 'who deceived, with the coolest, impudence, society, from the GovernorGeneral down to hotel waiters. As the Constitution now allows much liberty to the Imperial Princes, who were formerly strictly under guardianship, it, excited no surprise in Salonica, the Telegraph ■ says, when Prince Schehabeddin/ grandson of the Sultan Abdul Azi, and "nephew of the successor to the throne, Jussuf Izzedin, arrived at a Salonica hotel, stating that he wished to pass some days with the Young Turk Committee. The chief persons of the committee hastened' to visit the Prince, and were followed by the Governor, the civil and military dignitaries, Consuls, and the chief members of society. To dinners given by the " Prince" 30 or 40 guests were invited.' Jewellers and other tradesmen gladly gave unlimited credit. When the Prince announced his departure for Vienna, the directors of the Oriental railway offered him. a special saloon carriage, which was. telegraphed for to the managers in Constantinople. These made inquiries from the Ministers, and were informed that Prince Schehabeddin had not. left his konak in Scutari for several weeks. This announcement caused no little astonishment in Salonica, and the pseudo Prince was again visited by the Governor and the chief of police, who conveyed him to the prison at Jedikula. The prisoner, whose name is simply Schehabeddin, has been recognised as an active Reactionary, who personated the Prince in order to obtain, funds for flight. .„.. ;
