GOVERNMENT HOUSE SITE.
PROTESTS AGAINST ITS DISPOSAL.
In the opinion of tho Remuera Liberal and Labour Federation tho Government House grounds should bo set aside as a public park, the following resolutions being passed by that body on Thursday night: —
(1) " That Auckland Government House grounds being no longer required for tho purpose for which it was- originally set apart should be converted into a free public park, wherein all sections of the community could find refreshing shade, rest, and recreation, in the very heart of the city. And, in view of tho groat services rendered by the late Sir Goorgo Grey, in setting aside so many endowments for educational and other beneficiont purposes, such park could most appropriately be called "The Grey Public Park." (2) "That tho University and Grammar School institutions should, in accordance with the almost invariable practice now adopted in every leading country in the world, find desirable sites outside, rather than inside, congested centres of population." (3) "That the above resolutions be forwarded to the Hon. the Prime Minister."
The Women's Political League, at its meeting on Thursday afternoon, also discussed the question, a resolution being passed protesting against the Government House and grounds being disposed of for any purpose whatever until another residence had been built for the Governor.
