THE AUCKLAND . SHOW.

EXTENSIVE PREPARATIONS. RECORD SHOW EXPECTED. The complete success of the Metropolitan Spring Show of the' Auckland A. and P. Association on Friday ■ and Saturday next is regarded as assured, providing the weather proves favourable. Alexandra Park is now, in the middle of the complete transformation which is necessary to provide for the record stock entries, while the association is preparing to cater for a larger number of visitors than ever before.; One hundred additional pens are being provided. In horses and cattle alone there is an excess of 230 entries over last year, and additional entries in other classes bring the total in-

creases up to 308 entries. The horse section will comprise 828 exhibits, cattle 328, sheep

2, pigs 91, butter, produce and sundries

285, making a grand total of 1800 entries. The demand for space in the machinery and manufacturing departments has been so

great that a large number of applications have been rejected. Fully a score of would-be exhibitors were disappointed in this respect yesterday.

Exhibitors have commenced to arrive from various parts of the North Island with their stock, and competition between the several districts promises to be unusually keen. It was only by the opening of the Main Trunk line that such friendly and profitable rivalry could be brought into play. Messrs. Slack Bros., who swept the board with Ayrshires at the Waikato

Show, have brought their, prize animals up for the show. Sheep exhibits have been brought forward by Messrs. J. R. Carrigan, Hawera; E. Short, Feilding; Jas. Close, Parahaki; Tanner, Carterton ; and Walker, Longburn. Some interesting exhibits of Ryland sheep are being sent by the Department of Agriculture. Mr. W. I. Taylor, of Ohaupo, has come to Auckland as a horse exhibitor, Mr. W. Taylor, of Te Awamutu, is bringing cattle, while pigs are

being shown by Messrs. Willard (Frankton Junction), Crosby (Kirikiri), Luxton (Tamahere), and Rogers (Ngaruawahia). Many other country exhibitors intend showing in the various, stock sections.

A more attractive prize list has never before been issued at Auckland. Not only does it embrace many additional classes, but the prize money has been increased to £1250, and several handsome trophies and cups are also being offered.

Saturday has been set apart as people's day, and this holds great possibilities of being-one of the grandest spectacular events vet witnessed at an Auckland show. All

the horse-jumping classes will be strongly contested. Thirty-six military events are listed. Special attention is being paid to the convenience of visitors in the compilation of the programme, and full particulars of the various events, will be supplied. •.

Very complete train arrangements have been made for the benefit •of visitors from the Main Trunk line and North of Auckland stations. The excursions last until Friday, December 3; but a large number of special trains will be running on Saturday next for the benefit of those desiring to make their return journey at the conclusion of the show. Several of the Auckland members of Parliament intend to be present at the show (telegraphs our Wellington correspondent). Mr. Massey, who was the first president of the present association, will be one of the number, -if his Parliamentary duties will permit of his leaving Wellington.
