The Franklin Mounted Rifles had the misfortune to lose' two valuable trophies in the •■ recent fire 'at Messrs. Robertson Bros.' premises, viz.,: the, Kirker 5 shield and the. Kirker cup, both of which ? had been won outright by the company. The trophies (writes our Clevedon correspondent) had been on view for a considerable time in Messrs. Robertson Bros.' window. The Union Steam Ship Company have issued an attractive folder, giving the details of their cruisers from Lhinedin to the West Coast Sounds, which take place during the last week in December and the first week in January. Each trip is to be of about six days' duration, and as there are few who cannot spare a few days just about this time it seems certain that the opportunity to visit the sounds will be largely availed of.
