! NEW, SERVICE TO AUCKLAND. [from our OWN CO-RESPONDENT.] ,v •" •" London, October 15. Auckland and New Zealand' are greatly indebted to Mr. ; Richard A. Carr; of Auckland, who has just left for the Continent on his homeward voyage, for the new departure which is being entered upon by the P. and O. Company in sending a few of its vessels on to Auckland. Mr. Carr has had several interviews on the subject with Sir. Thomas Sutherland, the chairman of the company, : and the new arrangement is the outcome. , : '.'■'. .'•'.'
The managers of the company inform me that the first steamed* to go across from Sydney to Auckland will be the Malwa, which is expected to reach Auckland about February 16. ; .i? She will leave the same or the following day. The Malwa will bo followed by the Mongolia and Morea at intervals of four weeks. It is not possible to say yet whether the P. and O. boats will carry the mails to New Zealand. The main object of the innovation is to embark passengers proceeding to Europe, but the steamers will also carry passengers between Australia and New Zealand, if any offer. The ;; Australian t port of departure will always be Sydney.
