MOTORING.
In a series of speed trials at Lowell, Mass., Barney Oldfield, a prominent American motorist, secured the fastest times for the mile, in both standing start and flying start trials. He drove a 120-h.p. Beuz car, and covered the mile in the first instance in 41sec.. and with a flying start in 39.95ec.— a speed of over 90 miles an hour. : His fast-. est mile in a competition was 54 l-ssec. The race of the meeting—for tK© Lowell trophy and £200 in —was won ,by G. Robertson, in a Simplex \ car, who covered tTie 318 miles—3o circuits of the course 51i. 52min. 1 2-ssec. ' "
