A MINER KILLED.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—-PRESS ASSOCIATION.]
Gore, Friday. A married man, named Henry Matthews, aged 32, engaged on the day, shift at Green's lignite pit, did not return home last evening. His wife became alarmed and communicated with the mine manager who, with his son, made haste to the mine, where inspection revealed Matthews' body almost covered, by four or five tons of lignite. The coal was broken up, and on getting the body clear they found life extinct. It is supposed that deceased fired a shot, which was heard about four o'clock, and having failed to bring down the coal, commenced to hew out the wall, with the result that he loosened the coal which fell upon him.
