POLICE COURT NEWS.

STREET. FIGHTING. Two men, named John Ansenne and Ivbrk Brennan, were charged at the Police Court yesterday, before Messrs. W. H. Martin and J. ; A. Langford, justices of the peace, with causing a disturbance in the street. They were convicted of having used threatening behaviour and were each. fined £1, or seven days' imprisonment. . Three charges were brought against Ansenne of drunkenness, entering licensed premises while prohibited, and procuring liquor while prohibited. He was remanded until to-day, and was allowed bail in ,one surety of £10. ■',". "•--'•

' Thomas Chanpell was charged with having caused a breach of the peace in Pittstreet by fighting with another man. SubInspector Hendrey said the prisoner was standing in the street with his coat off and in a fighting attitude. The other man had fled. Chappell was convicted and ordered to find two sureties of £10 each that he would keep the peace * for three months. .'

DRUNKENNESS. John Gill, for having been drimk •in Albert Park, was fined ss, or in default 24 hours' imprisonment. Three first offenders were fined ss, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. MISCELLANEOUS. Two youths, Thomas ' Hine and Eric Clarke, were fined £1, in default seven days' imprisonment, for indency in Market Square. Richard Thira, for a similar offence at the entrance of the railway station, was fined £1 ( in default seven days' imprisonment. Henry Gunthorpe, charged with having been drunk and with being a rogue and vagabond, was convicted on both charges and sent to gaol for 14 days. Mary Clarke, charged with being a rogue and a vagabond, insufficient lawful means of was convicted and sent to prison for six months. She would not accept the alternative of going to a home. ;;\—

John Riley, who is .alleged to have forged a cheque for £15 12s at Makuri on August 10, was remanded in order that he might appear at Wellington.. .._,..
