COUNCIL'S OFFER DECLINED.

The sub-committee appointed to consider tho question of the Bite for a weighbridge reported having met the Works Committee of the City Council, and, it having been proved to the satisfaction of the Council that the excavation already made was within the boundary of the quay, it was decided that the Works Committee should recommend to the Council that the site applied for be granted, the Board to maintain a width of 35ft j of the quay from the centre of Albert-street to the dock fence, the City Council to do the work, the Board to reimburse the Council for the cost of maintenance. The town clerk of Auckland wrote stating that the City Council would give the Board permission to build one weighbridge only on the site of the plan. The Chairman moved, " That the engineer be instructed to proceed with the erection of two weighbridges on the Board's own property on the waterfront, and that the City Council's offer be declined-"
