INGENIOUS NIGHT READINGGLASS.

Who has not experienced the exasperation of waking up in the middle of the .night, and wishing to ascertain the time, of fumbling about in the darkness for the elusive matches to illuminate the watch or clock dial; or, should electric light be available, has not been dazzled by the sudden emergence from the darkness into brilliant light? An ingenious inventor has overcome this troublesome possibility in a very ingenious manner by the design of what he describes as a "night eye," or glass, which enables one to read the time or print in the darkness. . The luminosity, which is a purplish glow, is not produced. by phosphorus or a luminous combustible medium of any description, but by a chemical radio-active action. It is essentially intended for use in the darkness when the eyes are in their night condition. All that is necessary is to hold the luminous material near a light for some ten seconds before retiring, so as to set up the chemical radio-active action. Then it will glow steadily till night. It will be seen that such a system is capable of application to a variety of purposes, more especially as it is so simple and absolutely safe" from all points of view, and will last for many years. ■ _______________
