TRAINING-SHIP ARRIVES.
'' C, A RACE TO : Auckland. " ,\ The New Zealand Government? training-ship Amokura, " Commander G. Hooper, arrived from '.I Wellington ,* yesterday;.afternoon, en route for the Kermadec Islands. '■■ - ,
'.She left Wellington on Saturday last at four p.m. and came along under easy steam about eight knots per hour-flight variable winds and smooth seas being experienced on the voyage. r , - ■ ~
i- A moderate amount of diversion v was created on Monday. The Amokura under steam at •10 a.m. overhauled the schooner Awanui, which vessel was almost becalmed off Cape Runaway. Later on, at 5.30 p.m., the Amokura, now being under sail, the youthful crew had the mortification of seeing their own ship overhauled'by the • Awanui, both ships being under sail with a light breeze.' At abort three a.m. yesterday the wind having fallen away, and the-Amokura - being again, under steam, the pleasure reverted to the Amokura boys, as their ship again overhauled the schooner. Each occasion was made much of, and much cheering took place on both ; vessels. • r Cuvier T Island was passed at noon yesterday and the ship anchored off Bean Rock at five p.m. ' The Amokura will come to the wharf at daylight this morning to prepare for her cruise onwards to the Kermadecs, having at that place to erect a new depot for castaways, also to replenish those at present existing. The ship will return to Auckland in about 14 days hence. \ The number of boys now under training is 56. Commander Hooper has the vessel in very neat order. ' - "
