AUCKLAND SCHOLARSHIPS.
THE RESULTS ANNOUNCED.
The results of recent scholarship examinations conducted under the auspices of the Auckland University College were reported to a meeting of the college council yesterday afternoon by the examiners (Professors Brown, A. P. W. Thomas, and Segar). They were as follows :—
Gillies' Scholarship (chemistry and physics) : H. C. Johnson, Carterton. Eleven candidates.
Sinclair Scholarship (biology, geology, etc.): Hilda J. Adlington, Girls' Grammar School, Auckland. Three candidates. Sir George Grey Scholarship (for students of Auckland University College): W: A. Gray. Two candidates. The Acting-Chairman (Mr. G. L. Peacocke) remarked that it was satisfactory to find 11 candidates from different parts of the Dominion competing for the Gillie* scholarship. It showed that the study of science was becoming more popular, notwithstanding the fact that these were usually considered particularly dry subjects.
