CIIRISTCHURCH .MOTOR FATALITY.
[by telegraph.—PßESS ASSOCIATION.] Christchttrch, Monday. The Supreme Court criminal sittings were opened this morning, before Mr. Justice Denniston.
"No bill" : was returned in the case against W. A. Humphreys, charged ■ with manslaughter arising out of the recent motor-car fatality, in which Captain Pavitt was killed. The voting was nine to nine. The grand jury examined -witnesses for the defenco, as well -as those for the prosecution. George Sidney Kennard was acquitted on a charge of indecent assault. James Arthur Bennett was sentenced on two charges of forgery to two years, and' was told that if he came up again the sentence would bo indeterminate. Eugene Long, for perjury, received four months; Lloyd Evans, forgery, 12 months; Francis Ddrley, indecent assault, 12 months; Archibald McKcllar, breaking and entering with criminal intent on a woman living alone, five years' imprisonment.

Wellington, Monday. The criminal sessions of the Supreme Court, opened to-day. Tlio small number of cases set down for hearing was commented upon by His Honor. On a chargo of forgerj Thomas Aubne, alias Storey, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment; Andrew Paulson, a Russian Finn, was sentenced to two years' hard labour for theft; Archibald McNaughton, charged with assaulting John Shelly, a publican, and stealing his watch, was found guilty of assault," but not guilty of robbery, and was sentenced to six months' hard labour.
