A report received from Melbourne last week states that the Victorian Premier . intends to recommend the Ministry to purchase the iron sailing barque Loch Ryan for the use of a training-ship for boys. '-The American barque Kaiulani, which sailed from Newcastle on April 15 and Auckland on August 4, arrived at Honolulu on September 21. - It will be remembered that the Kaiulani left-New-->castle -with 2365 tons of-, coal for -• Honolulu, -and ■ was towed into Auckland with her rudder broken.

Captain Colby stated that on May 16, when 900 miles off the East"Cape of New Zealand, a heavy gale was encountered and- -carried-' away her rudder and several sails.' The gale lasted for three days, seas breaking ail over the vessel. On the 20th the weather moderated, and after a week's work the master fixed up jury tackle for the remnant of the rudder, and navigated the vessel into Hauraki Gulf, where she was picked up by the tugboat Te Awhina and towed into port.
