: THE ; CHALLENGER. : A large vessel, reported to be H.M.B. -Challenger, from the Kermedecs, dropped anchor in the Xtangitoto Channel last night. She will enter the harbour this morning. -~... ■- THE PROMETHEUS. H.M. third-class < cruiser Prometheus arrived from Picton at 7 a.m. on Saturday, and took up an anchorage in the man-of-war ground. She will be floated into Calliope Dock to-day for cleaning and painting. WAIKARE, FROM THE SOUTH. Fine weather was experienced by the as. Waikare, Captain W. J. Newton, which arrived from Dunedin'at 8.30 a.m. yesterday, via Lyttclton, Napier, and Glsbome. The Waikare is berthed at Hobson-street Wharf, and will return to Dunedin, via way ports, to-morrow afternoon. THE SYDNEY BOAT. The turbine steamer Maheno, Captain M. Livingstone,, arrived from Sydney at 9.30 a.m. yesterday, and, being granted pratique, berthed at Queeij. street Wharf. She took her departure from Sydney at 6.35 p.m. on Wednesday last, passed Cape Maria Van Diemen at 7.51 p.m. on Saturday, and arrived as above. Light variable winds and smooth seas were experienced throughout the trip. The Maheno returns to Sydney at 5.30 p.m. to-day. . i • ARRIVAL OF THE AWAHOA. The steamer Awaroa. which was recently purchased by an Auckland syndicate from the Kaipara Steamship Company," arrived from Helensville shortly before 5 p.m. yesterday and berthed at Queen-street Wharf.
