NEWMARKET BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Those present at the meeting of the'Nowmarket Borough Council last evening were: The Mayor (Mr. E. Davis), Messrs. W. Edgerley, D. Teed, J. B. King, J. W. Jeffrey, H. Kinder, A. Whittomo, W. Whyman, J. McColl.

The district health officer wrote stating 1 that for the sum of £20, payable beforq March 31, 1911, the Health Department would take over the sanitary inspection of Newmarket, including the investigation and disinfection of any infectious disease. The) Mayor said that if they had more funds he would bo inclined to favour the suggestion, but they had a good inspector, withwhoso department there was no complaint, and he therefore thought the Council could not at present accede to the request. The' matter was referred to a committee to report. A letter was received from the Auckland Plumbers Employers' Union, suggesting uniform by-laws for city and suburbs. The l letter was referred to the Sanitary Committee.
