[BY TELEGRAM.—TRESS ASSOCIATION.]
' OHRiSTcnuRCH, Tuesday. The annual conference of the Builders and Contractors' Federation of New Zealand was opened this morning, Mr. Andrew Bain .(chairman) presiding. The Mayor welcomed • the delegates to Christchurch.
The'annual report having been adopted, Mr. Bennett reported upon the proceedings of the ... Australian Builders' Convention, stating tliat he did not consider that the wages boards in Australia were as good as the Conciliation Council in New Zealand. Mr. Bennett spoke in favour of the proposal at the convention that builders should establish an insurance company to carry insurances of new. buildings. The company would not be formed to cut rates, but merely because it was thought that there would be sufficient business, and because statistics showed that the number of fires in. new. buildings wag very small. He also favoured the registration of builders. ,
The report was received, and a vote of thanks to Mr. Bennett carried.
A' draft agreement for sub-contractors was considered, and, after a short " discussion, was agreed to, with certain amendments.
