WAIHI HOSPITAL TRUSTEES.
BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN" CORRESPONDENT.]
> . Waihi, Tuesday. The monthly meeting of the Waihi Hospital trustees ~ was held last evening", . Mr. John Newth (chairman) presiding. In the course of his report for , the month ended
October 31 the medical superintendent gave the patients admitted as 42, discharged 34, died 4, operated on 2, remaining for treat-
ment 35. He recommended the appointment of Nurse R.Newdick as charge in succession to Charge-nurse Finlay, who had resigned to take up an appointment elsewhere. Tho report was adopted. It was decided to apply to the Borough Council for ■ a grant; of £250 towards hospital maintenance, and accounts totalling £290 6s 8d wero passed for payment. Mr. M. G. Power introduced an important question in the matter of tho Hospital Bill, which, he said, was being put through tho Houso in a quiet manner. He said that if the measure became law as, it now stood tht? entire control of the local institution would be relegated to a board of management, sitting at the Thames, as Waihi would then be merged in the Thames Hospital and Charitable Aid Board district. Ho held that as tho Borough Council had practically to find all tho .money for the Waihi institution they should have a say in the appointment of these representatives. The position, however, would bo that the Council would have to pay, and at the same time have no voice in the management. The following motion was unanimously carried " That the Borough Council be asked to protest against the merging of tho Waihi borough into tho Thames Hospital and Charitable Aid Board district."
