A LONG-STANDING CASE.

MR. GREENHEAD'S TROUBLES.

The troubles of Mr. C. H. Greenhead, of Waiuku, in regard to an old matter that has formed the subject of several petitions to Parliament, as well as two inquiries, were mentioned by Mr. Greenhead at the Police Commission yesterday. He had accused another person of certain wrongful act:?, and ho opened his complaint yesterday by stating that the police had not given his case the attention that it deserved. He had been refused an interview with Commissioner Dinnie. Mr. Dinnie said that Mr. Brabant, S.M., after thoroughly inquiring into the matter, found that there was not sufficient evidence on which to base a prosecution. The complainant . continued his representations, and a further inquiry was held, but the result was the same. The complainant was then advised to lay an information. Mr. Greenhead: I did so, but Mr. Kettle advised me to place the matter before Inspector Cullen. I would be satisfied if I could lay the facts before a police officer. Mr. Bishop pointed out that if an information were laid a magistrate must hear it. Inspector Cullen: I have never heard of this information which he says he has laid. Mr. Bishop, having examined the papers laid before him by Mr. Greenhead, said: "Why! you have never laid an information. You have only written out a statement of your case. Go back to the Court and lay your information. They will take as many informations as you wish to lay, especially if you have to pay for .them. If the magistrate refuses to hear it, you can go to the Supreme Court- for a mandamus." Commissioner Dinnie said that the police were quite willing to assist Mr. Greenhead in every possible way. but they could not undertake the prosecution. Mr. Greenhead intimated that he would follow Mr. Bishop's advice.
