Mr. Ewen Mcßonell, who joined the police force at Dunedin in 1875, was promoted to sub-inspector in 1899, and inspector in 1900, died at Petone on Wednesday night {says a Press Association message). Anderson, M.A. The death occurred on Wednesday evening last at his parents' residence, Victoria Read, Hantapu, of James Robert, the second son of Mr. aid Mrs. Andrew Jameson, after a short illn;ss. from an attack of fever (writes our Cambridge correspondent). The deceased young man was aged 23 years. His father, Mr. Andrew Jameson, is at present on a visit to Scotland. Mr. Robert Spreckley, of the old established stationer's business in Shortlandstreet, died on Wednesday at the residence of Mr. Colebrook, Henderson Valley. Deceased had a sudden seizure a few days before death. He was 49 years of age, and leaves a widow, who is a daughter of Mr. Alex. Rose, late Collector of Customs in Auckland. He had no family. Mr. F. M. B. Fisher, M.P.. of Wellington, was introduced as a visitor to the Auckland Stock Exchange at the noon call yesterday. In reply to the welcome extended by lie chairman (Mr. G. A. Buttle), Mr. Fisher said he thought it would be of advantage to have somebody in the House with a knowledge of their business, who would be able to see to their interests. Mrs. Simeon, the wife of Mr. Fred. P. Simeon, died in Wellington yesterday, aged 65 years (says. a Press Association message). Deceased, was a half-caste, and was well known among the Maoris as Kurakitiro, and also as Akanihi. She was a close relative of the late chiefs Tohu and Te Whiti, and for many" years she had been of great assistance to the Native Land Courts m unravelling intricate cases by reason of her intimate knowledge of the lineage of the Taranaki natives.
