WAIHI.
{by TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Waihi, Tuesday. The final round for Mr. W. Manning's trophy was fired by the No. "3 Ohinemuri Rifles on Saturday, the; ranges being 600 yds and 700 yds. The trophy was won by Lieutenant Comes, with two firsts and a third place in the three competitions.
At the fortnightly meeting of the Waihi Foresters' Lodge last evening two candidates were proposed for membership and one initiated into the Order. .
A " book-title" evening was held under the auspices of the young women's Bibleclass in St. James' Hall last night, and passed off very successfully. Nearly 40 books were represented, and most of the titles were cleverly shown. Prizes were given to the lady and gentleman giving correctly the greatest number of titles. A pianoforte selection was contributed by Miss McClatchy, a recitation by Miss Kelsey, and songs by Messrs. Roberts and Parker, Miss McClatchy playing the accompaniments. ... v . CAMBRIDGE. [from our own correspondent.] Cambridge, Tuesday. ; Mrs. Haeusler, who has been in charge of - the Pukerimu school for several years past, and who has received another appointment near Auckland, was tendered a farewell social by the residents and made a presentation of a travelling bag by the school children. • The latter also made a presentation .to Master Haeusler.. ' ~ >: , At a meeting of the members of the Cambridge and Hautapu Ladies' Hockey Club -the president of the Hockey Association (Mr. f;L. Isherwood) attended and addressed the & meeting at some length on matters pertaining to the game. ■ It was resolved that the illvladies should again combine and take part in matches and to issue a challenge to the .ohaupo Ladies' CluU .
