Mr. Firth states that all the samples, with tho exception of No. 7, wero obtained from the surface of the syndicate's property, and that the oro will increase in value as depth is attained. LUCK AT LAST. ■ A meeting of the shareholders of tho Luck at Last Gold Mining Company was held at the office of Mr. A. L. White on Monday, to adopt the memorandum and articles of association, and appoint tho officers of tho company. Mr. H. H. Adams occupied the chair, and explained that the company was formed to work tho old Whangamata prospecting mine at Whangamata. A low level would bo put in to cut the known reefs of the mine, and, considering tho amount of gold won under former management, tho prospects in this low level were very good indeed. The company would have a capital of £7500, divided into 100,000 shares of Is 6d each, issued at 3d per share, all being subscribed. The directors appointed .were Messrs. H. H. Adams, Wm. Blomfield, A. A. Adams, Fredk. Lewis, and Captain MeLeod. Mr. A. L. White was appointed secretary, and Mr. F. L. Prime auditor.

THE FIJIAN FIND. Speaking to a Herald representative yesterday with reference to the reported discovery of gold in Fiji, Mr. J. B. Turner, a loading Fijian settler, who is at present on a visit to Auckland, sounded a note of warning, declaring that tho quantities of the previous motal available had yet to be definitely proved. " Speaking from personal knowledge," ho said, " I can say that not more than two grains of gold to the cubic yard at tho outside have been discovered in tho alluvial flats adjacent to Suva. Tho traces of gold have, however, been followed up the Wai Dina River for 25 miles, and at this point a lode of low-grade ore has boon discovered, yielding about ldwt of gold to tho ton. What further supplies are available, however, yet remains to bo seen, and when anything of a payable quantity is discovered you may rest assured that it will bo made known to tho, world. What I do not want to see is a rush taking place under misleading information." . NOTES. During the past week tho level in the Bonanza mine, Thames, has been extended to 26ft. Tho country just penetrated is good and highly mineralised. • Tho contractors in the Rising Sun mine are making good progress, having driven 25ft for tho week, making a total of 371 ft. Tho country still continues good. ■■ < ; In the Halcyon mine, Thames, the tunnel is now in 237 ft. The country is still changing for the better, having in the last foot or two mado some white heads. The level in the Southern Queen mine, Thames, has been extended to 468 ft. A hard rib of ground was passed through, and the face is now in sandstone country. Tho reef maintains its size, Ift wide, and has a kindly ajipearanco, the quartz showing good bright minerals through it.

Driving north has been continued on the Silver King reef in .the Bendigo mine, and the hangingwall has been broken down. It does not, however, show as much mineral as in the footwall. In the footwall tho last shot fired threw out a lot of sulphide ore, in which gold can bo freely seen.

In tho Point Russell mine, Thames, No. 1 stop© north has been stripped for Bft, but no quartz has been broken down. In No. 2 stope a portion of the reef has been taken down, showing strong colours of gold in the mineralised stone. A leading stopo southwards is now in progress, hut no quartz will bo broken down from it until the crection of the hopper is completed.

Reporting on the 21st inst. the manager of tho Now Sylvia mine, Thames, stated that tho grading of the truck lino from the low level to connect with tho quartz paddock and shoot at tho battery site would bo completed in another day, and that ho would then commence breaking out ore. The main crosscut has been advanced another sft in splendid country.

Operations have been resumed in the New Waitekaurr mine, and work started on a reef from No. 2 rise, below the Queen level, and going north. This reef is about sft from wall to wall, and a general samplo taken across the face gave a good payable value. There is a nice sulphide seam running with, and in, the centre of the reef, and a samplo from it gave a higher value.

In the Occidental mine, Thames, tho crosscut from tho main tunnel has been driven another Bft. The country is still hard to break, being intersected with quartz veins, some of which show bright mineral. From an examination of the North Star section the manager thinks that tho only means by which it can be developed is by extending tho main tunnel up to it and driving on tho Smith reef.

Graham's level in the Kuranui-Cale-donian mine, Thames, during the past fortnight, has been holed through to the drive put in on tho leader from tho rise. Thero appears to bo little doubt now that tho leader which has been risen on is Graham's leader, and stoping is now in progress upon it. At tho same time the drive will bo pushed on east of tho rise as tho plan shows Graham's top level workings to bo 170 ft cast.

Operations have beep carried on as usual in the Waitangi mine, Thames. In the western section of the low level the second stopo has been advanced sft -west of the rise, with an average width of Bft. The ore broken out looks well. It carries some nice bands of mineral, and a little free gold. In the eastern end of the stopo 3ft, was broken out. The ore secured showed some nice dabs and colours of gold and a few pounds of picked stone was selected. A contract has been let for driving 100 ft in No. 2 level.

' The intermediate level in tho Champion mine has been opened out, and after driving lOffc the old pass was met with. Tho manager states that it had completely collapsed, but the top portion of tho pass could bo seen about 15ft up from where it was holed into. To facilitate matters the manager has discontinued opening out at this point, and is extending the rise another 7ft or Bft, which will take it clear or over tho top of tho fall and allow this block to bo worked to bettor advantage. He hopes to have this work completed by tho end of this week, and to bo breaking quartz for the mill tho week following. Several more dishes of dirt from tho surface outcrop mentioned in last report were tried, and all gave nice prospects of gold in the dish and also in the stone itself.

In tlio Dominion mine, Karangahake, the low level has now a length of 630 ft. The country in the last 10ft driven improved in appearance, being interlaced with mineral veins. Operations on the hangingwall portion of the reef in a northerly direction from the bottom of the winze, have also been in progress. In cutting through the ore body to the footwall the manager found, after getting in for 3ft or 4ft, that the ore developed into a mixture of rubble and sandstone, and did not go any further. He accordingly • started cutting through the ore body in- a more solid country, -sft or 6ft

from tho face of the drive. Eight feet has been driven with no appearance of the footwall. Five foot on tho hangingwall is composed of fairly solid quartz, and the remainder is of a rubbly nature. Tho stone looks well, and some of it is carrying good mineral. In tho southern end of tho winze flie quartz formation has been proved to bo Bft wide. There are still, however, some largo boulders of quartz on the hangingwall side, and tho rest is composed of rubbly quartz and sandstone, which leads the manager to think that it may yet prove to be tho main reof.
