AUCKLAND CLUB'S championship. . , burns SECURES THE honour. The Auckland Club's championship competition was brought to a conclusion at Cornwall Park links in beautiful weather Saturday, resulting in a win for J. C- Buna, who defeated P. Upton by 4 up and 3 to -nlav Two rounds were played, tho first Commencing at 10 o'clock on Saturday mornimr ' Play was interesting, the first round finishing all .square. In the long game loth men ; were remarkably good, but they showed occasional weakness in approaching and on the green. Upton pulled his third badly, but Burns got on -'to the green, and might to have won, but was laid a stymie by Upton, and the hole was halved in six. This left Burns two up at the turn. The home play saw good drives made, ■ but -' the approaches were weak, and the hole halved in five. At the eastern crater Burns got nicely on to the; green with his drive and won the hole four to five. Burns failed to reach the green at Jacob's Ladder, * but Upton sent a good one to within 4ft of the pin. Burns made ft good recovery, but failed in his putt, and the hole was •halved. Burns won the 13th three to four, the next was halved in four, and Upton won the 15th, after holing a nice putt, four to five. The 16th hole saw a good opening, both driving well, but Burns topped his second and third. The green play was ■weak. Upton won the hole six to seven. Upton won the 17th in three, while the 18th, after each had taken four to reach the green, was halved in seven, and the plavers finished the round all square. Burns score for the round was 90, and Upton's 91. : In the second round Burns, playing a better game, the match finished in his favour by 4- un and 3 to play.
