THE CRETAN CRISIS.
TURCO-GREEK RELATIONS. By Telegraph.— Press Association.— Copyright. (Received August 20. 11.50 p.m.) London, August 20. Greece's reply to the Porte with respect to the Cretan question, is conciliatory, and promises to entirely conform to the decisions of the protecting Powers and abstain from encouraging any agitation for annexation in Crete.
Mutinous militiamen yesterday hoisted the Greek flag on the fort at the entrance to Candia Harbour, and threatened to shoot the Greek officers who objected, but later were persuaded to return to barracks.
Subsequently, at the instance of the Cretan Government, and in order to prevent international occupation, the Governor lowered the flag unopposed.
