DISAPPOINTED LAND SEEKERS

BOOKING TO Q

On several occasions (writes Mr. W. Denny) \ I have read " articles dealing with Crown lands in and around Kawhia, also describing what said place would be provided tl/ose Crown lands wore opened for settlement. Now, sir, there' are 20 able-bodied young men, with small capital at their disposal, myself making one, who are desirous of settling on some of those Kawhia lands, which are gasping for settlement. Suppose any one of us sent in an application to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, what reply would we receive? Some of us know too well already. All of those young men being New ZoaJandors would naturally like to settle in their own country, but what, are they to do when they are continually disappointed? Their attention has been drawn elsewhere; Queensland, for instance, which holds out far better inducements than thin* Government ever did. Speaking for myself and others, unless we can secure land here in a very short period, we are leaving.this country for Queensland, where we can obtain what we want.
