THE NEXT CHAMPIONSHIPS.
By Telegraph.—rre»a Association.— Brisbane, August 19. The Board of Control of the Amateur Athlletic .Association of. Australasia resolved that lists of reinstatements of amateurs be furnished to the board by the various associations ; that the rule providing against bartering or realisation of trophies be supplemented by prohibiting pawning them; that no amateur be permitted to issue or allow to be. issued on his behalf a challenge fpr money or against a professional; ; that the all-round individual championship in Connection with the biennial Australasian championship meeting be allowed to lapse. It was decided to hold an Australasian
cross-country championship every two years, the distance to be five miles, with the understanding that the distance should be open for reconsideration after the first two races have been run. The race was allotted to Tasmania for next year, New Zealand's turn coming in 1918. Provision was made for holding javelin-throwing events. The question of allowing pole-vaulters to make a hole for insertion of the pole was referred to the State associations. FAMOUS RUNNERS. WALKER AND HEFFERNAN INVITED. 'Received August 20, 1.15 a.m.) Brisbane, August 19. The Athletic Conference decided, with a view of arousing interest, to bring R. C. Walker, the sprinter, and Heffernan, the long-distance runner, from Durban, about next Christmas, to give four appearances in. New Zealand and two in each of the Australian States. New Zealand is to guarantee up to £1000.
