A SECOND TERM.

EDUCATION BOARD CHAIRMANSHIP, The annual election of chairman of the Auckland Education Board took place at yesterday's meeting of the Board. ■ - The retiring chairman (Mr. C. J. Parr) nominated Mr. A. R. Harris, the senior'/ v member of the Board, for the position of chairman for the ensuing year. Mr. Greenslade seconded the nomination. ■ Mr. Harris thanked his proposer and i,■ seconder, but said that, i.i view of his many other public engagements, he felt •*, that he must decline the honour.

Mr. J. D. McKenzie eulogised the services rendered by Mr. Parr, and moved his reappointment. Mr. G, J. Garland seconded Mr. Parrs nomination, and in doing, so paid ,a high - tribute to the ability and industry that had been brought to bear on the discharge of his duties by the late chairman. Mr. . Parr's legal knowledge had also been of • great assistance to the Board in many ways, whilst it was also on his initiation ,t. : r. that the recent conference in regard to the syllabus (at which so much good work had been done) had been brought about. Messrs. Harris, Greenslade, Kdgecumbe, ■ and Barriball also spoke very highly of the || manner in which Mr. Parr had discharged his duties, and special reference was made by Mi - . Edgecumbe to the good service ren- ) ( j dered by Mr. Parr in regard to the grading of teachers. Mr. McKenzie endorsed '■ this latter remark. Mr. A. J. Farmer, the newlv-elccted member, also expressed a desire that Mr. Parr should continue in % office.

■ Mr. Parr said that it had been his in- retention to relinquish the office on account ; of the sacrifice of time that it involved,' but he felt that he could not resist the '', unanimous desire of the Board, so flatteringly expressed, that lie be chairman for another term.
