■ The over-night partnership, Burnett and Townsend, lasted ' for, 75 minutes, the second wicket falling at 183, when Barnett was caught at short-leg by'Trumper, off Cotter, after batting 145 minutes for 60 : 2—183—60.
Townsend, who was joined' by Langdon, gave a fine display of hard driving and cutting. He knocked up . his first 50 in 50 minutes. His innings, which lasted two hours, was marred by chances at 40 to Hopkins, and at 45 to Hansford, both off Whitty. He hit 21 fours, "and whs caught at 127 by Macartney, off Hopkins : 3—233—127. ...
Langdon was caught-easily in the slips by Hopkins, off O'Connor, while Finlay was bowled by the South Australian.
F. Roberts and Woolley became associated, and both played attractive cricket, 300 being hoisted in 255 minutes, Roberts' half-century taking 70 minutes. Woolley at 21 was finely caught by Ransford at square-leg : 6 —350—21.
The two Roberts . carried the total to 380, when Ransford took another squareleg catch, disposing of F. Roberts, . who had played a free, all-round game and hit eight fours. '■ ■
A. Roberts was taken cleverly in the slips by Hopkins, off Cotter, after making 21, and after Huggihs, . who followed him,'had scored a' single, rain set in, and stumps had to be . drawn for the day with the score at 407 for eight wickets.
