- ; London,-August 18. Mr. Asquith is well satisfied with the progress of the Finance (Budget) Bill, owing to the winnowing powers given to the . Chairman of Committees enabling him to shear away pages of amendments. Mr. Asquith assumes charge- of the Bill when "the licensing clause is reached. -
• In the House last night Mr. LloydGeorge ' (Chancellor; of the Exchequer) informed Mr. H. G. Montgomery ; (Liberal member for the Bridgewater - division of Somerset), that brick clay was a mineral," and that it was not proposed to exempt it from the operation of the Finance Bill. ■■
