COMMERCIAL.

Though a considerable number of sales were recorded on the Stock Exchange yesterday the market was quiet, and there was a general tendencyamong the majority of the stocks to ease off a little. In investment stocks New Zealand Insurances sold at 80si 6d, and more were available at the same figure, further buyers quoting 80s 3d. Business was done in Taupiri Coals at 20s 6d, and Auckland Gas (new issue) wore done at 22a 6d, with late buyers quoting 22s 3d, and sellers 235. , Buyers and sellers of Auckland Teams (ord.) came to terms at 21s, and of Wilsons Portland Cements (ord.) at 37s 6d. In mining lines Waihis eased a little, a sale l>eing recorded at £9 10s, with late buyers at £9 9s, and sellers at £9 lis. A parcel of Talisman Consolidateds changed hands at 59s 3d, there being further buyers at 58s 9d, and sellers at 595. Waihi Grand Junctions, which have been hardening during the past few days, eased a little. As against 55s 6d, the last' sale recorded on Thursday, shares sold at from 55s 3d to 54s 6d to 54s 9d to 545, the market closing with buyers at 545, and sellers at 54s 6d. Options were done at 335. Waihi Consolidateds and Waihi Extondeds, on tho other ha'nd, firmed a little, the former stock selling at 5s 7d, and the latter at from 7s 9d to 8s to Js lOd. In Thames scrip Waiotahis showed a falling tendency, operating at from 7s 6d to 7s 7d to 7s 4d to 7s 5d to 7s 4d, while Watchmans improved, changing hands at from 2s lOd to 3s Id. In Southern mines Consolidated Goldfields dropped Is, selling at 25s 9d and 25s 6d. _ Tho same also applied to Royal Oaks, in Coromandel lines, contributing shares as against 3s lid, the last sale the previous day, selling at from 3s 7d to 3s to 3s Id to 2s lOd to 2s lid. Sales made in other stocks, as a general rule, also showed an easier tendency.

FRUIT AND PRODUCE MARKETS.

There hag again been a large turnover in. farm produce and fruit# at the local market auction sales during the past week, but in several instances prices have ruled low. The potato market woe, if anything, lower, and very low prices had to be accepted for many lots in order to clear. Onions were again plentiful at a slight improvement. Chaff suffered a further fall. Green, vegetables gold fairly well. In, dairy produce there was a marked drop in the value of dairy butter and eggs, while cheese, hams, and bacon remained unchanged. Fruit was in heavy supply from all quarters, including Island, Sydney, and Tasmanian shipments. There was a largely in-, creased supply of local lemons, added to heavy shipments from Sydney, encouraged, by the high prices ruling during the past, month. Prices suffered a heavy fall. >' Apples in many cases were not up to prime standard, while a large proportion of the Island fruits were in a very bad state. Poultry was in only moderate supply, at high values, while young pigs were in demand beyond supply. Following were the ruling pricesat the auction sales yesterday:— Field Produce. — Southern, prime, £5 to £5 5s ton; Waikato, table, prime, £3 15« to £4; medium, £2 15s to £3: seed sorts, £3 to £4; Southern, poor, £3 to £4. Onions: Southern, unpicked £5 ton. repicked £6 to £6 6s; local, good £6 6s to £7, poor unsalable. Pumpkins, 3s 6d to ss. Kumaras, Id lb. Horse carrots, 25s to 30s ton. Dairy Produce.—Butter: Farmers', in prints, lOd to lid lb; farmers', bulk, prime, 8-1 d; poor, 7d; inferior, 6d; milled, in bulk, for export, lCd. Eggs: Fresh, lOd to lid dozen.
