The collection of animals at the Newtown Zoo now comprises about 300 specimens, representing 100 species.
Hie Morayshire is due in the Wanganui roadstead in a few days, and will be the last mutton boat of the season. After sending .the last of this years carcases away, the Gastlecliff Freezing Works will be closed down for the winter.
A man who was formerly an inmate of the Ohiro Home left because, as he said, "the home isn't largo enough for me." He applied to the trustees on Tuesday for £2 ss, in order that he might buy goods to "hawk." He stated that he could " sell anything." The Board decided that it was unable to set any person up in business.
As evidence of the strength of the northwesterly wind on Saturday, a nasty accident befell a member of the Celtic ladies' hockey team as- she was proceeding along the road at Miramar towards the playing ground (says the Wellington Post). A eudden gust caught her and knocked her down, with such force that she suffered a severe gash on her temple.
