NEARING THE MILLION.

■Wellington, Thursday. The population of New Zealand on June 30 last (exclusive of Maoris 47,731, and Cook Islanders) is estimated at 969,346.,
During the June quarter the arrivals numbered 6725, and : the departures 10,242, or a loss of population :of 3517. There were, however, 6730 births, as -against ; 2180 deaths, making , the net. increase for the quarter 1033. - - - ■ , ■"■ .--" ;„
