LACROSSE.

NOTES AND COMMENTS.

Tho round of championship matches, completed on Saturday left tho West End Club the winners of the champion banner. They went through the, whole series of matches (nine) without a single defeat, an. achievement deserving of hearty congratulation. This success is duo to the members of the team, who showed such earnestness in their work as to acquire a fine combination, and such enthusiasm that each player was present in all circumstances. A great amount of credit is also due to Captain McCoy, L. Stewart, and H. Nicholls, hon. secretary, for their joint organisation. The Grafton'Club, with five wins and four losses, is second on tho list. This club has a number of valuable players in its ranks, and, all things considered, should have done much better. . . - Tho Auckland Club's form was also dissapointing, considering tho number of skilled players possessed by it. A certain lack of interest shown towards instructing beginners probably accounts for the whites- only scoring three wins. The last on the list, is tho Ponsonby team, with one win and eight losses. This club made its debut this season, and comprised a majority of new players, many of whom absented themselves on occasions from their playing engagements. However, the form shown by many of the new men was very promising and augure well for the blues' future. _ ; At a meeting of the managing council, held on Monday, it was decided to hold a practice match on Saturday between two teams, from which a team will subsequently be chosen to play ' the Auckland representative team which defeated Wellington. Mr. H. McCoy was appointed selector. The practice takes place next Saturday on "Victoria Park, and ! tho. ensuing match' will take place on the Domain on August 7. There is somo talk of West End challenging the other clubs of the association. Probably more of this will'be heard ere the season closes.

The West End Club will probably celebrate its yictory by holding a euchre party and dance in tho Ponsonby Hall during August. i
