AUCKLAND V. WELLINGTON.

A WELL-CONTESTED GAME. [BY TELEGRAPH. SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.] . Wellington, Saturday. The fourth interprovincial lacrosse match between Wellington and Auckland was played to-day on the Basin Reserve, and, although the ground was a a heavy condition, the weather was fine. There was a largo attendance of spectators. Auckland succeeded in beating Wellington .after a strenuous fight. Amongst the spectators was the Hon. Findlay, Attorney-General, and tho Hon. A. R. Guinness, Speaker of the House of Representatives; The following are tho details of the play: —McCoy, captain of the visiting team, ' won the toss and played with the sun at his back. Auckland and Wellington attacked in turn r and then Walters,, the Auckland goal-keeper, stopped a shot, and threw to Borradale, who brought the attack, and Philson taking the pass dashed in and amidst, applause landed Auckland's first goal. McCoy set his attack in motion from the face-off, and got the ball away to Philson, who landed Auckland's second goal. The opening face saw Auckland again attacking, but' Fama secured, "and brought down to Auckland's goal. Hudson secured, and sent on to Montgomery, who notched Wellington's first goal. The faoe-off saw McCoy got the ball away to Borradale, then it went to Philson, who notched Auckland's seventh - goal. The ball travelled to Webb, who sent forward to his attack, and Fama taking possession notched a very pretty goal. At this stage Wellington were having slightly , the better of the game, and making strenuous efforts to score. The half-time gong was just preceded by a. delightful bit- of passing, which was ended by Robinson landing Wellington's fourth goal, the score at half-time being: Auckland, 7: Wellington, 4-. • The succeeding half of the game saw Auckland at a slight advantage. After a very hotly-contested struggle the -Aucklaiders maintained their superiority, ffhd the" bell sounding cease play, left Auckland . victorious by 10 goals to 6.'
