r-conduct meetings throughout this week. The annual social of the local lodge of ; Druids was held on Friday evening, and \ was largely attended. A most enjoyable time was spent, dancing being kept up till the early hours of morning. Vocal ; items were contributed by Miss Dufty and Messrs. Randall, Bridge, and Hunter, and .j stepdanccs by Messrs. Ernest; and Jackson. Messrs. Ritchie and Jackson were ;■:{• the M.C.'s. PAEROA.. . . [by telegraph.own CORRESPONDENT.] A fire took place at Mackaytown on Friday night, by which a house belong- : ing to Mr. A. Wight was totally destroyed. There was nobody living in the ■ house at the time. The house was insured, but the amount is not available. A successful " At Home" in connection with the No. 1 Ohinemuri Rifles was held on Friday night. Corporal White and Private J. Hubbard were M.C.'s, the bridge and euchre tournaments being .managed by Corporals E. Parry and W. Grant: The Bradford memorial belt was ;presented to the winner (Sergeant Moore) by Captain Hubbard, the card prizes being also presented to the following:— f' Bridge: Misses F. and O. Walmsley, Cores'- ' poral Parry and Sergeant Hubbard. £• Euchre: Mrs. Barrett and Mrs. Capill. (X Mr. Poland and Mr. Walls. As a. result of the recent, rain, the river ie very high, quite a large quantity of debris of all kinds being carried down. The footpaths in the township are • beWU ■ ing steadily improved.
