The by-election >in the Cleveland division of Yorkshire, necessitated by Mr. Herbert Samuel's acceptance of the Chancellorship of the Duchy of Lancaster (in succession to Lord Fitzmaurice), resulted in the return of the sitting member, the voting being as follows Mr. Samuel (L.), 6296 Mr. W. Lewis (C.), 5325.
