DATH OF A MAGISTRATE.

Masterton, Sunday. Mr. W. P. James, S.M., died early this morning. The deceased, who had been ill for eome time, succumbed to heart diecare. He was 56 years of age, and had been. magistrate - in Masterton for nine years, having previously been clerk of the court at Dunedin and Wellington. In his younger days, Mr. James was a prominent athlete, and was well known as a representative Rugby football player, he having represented Wellington on many occasions.
