PAEROA. [BY TELEGKArU. —OWN COItRESPONDENT.] I PAEROA, Monday. The sale of work held by the members of St. Paul's Ladies' Guild* concluded on Saturday night, the total receipts being nearly £70. CAMBRIDGE. e [EUOM OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Cambridge, Monday. The local branch of the Y.M.C.A. is progressing satisfactorily. The Scriptural and physical departments are the only two in operation at present, but it is proposed to inaugurate literary meetings shortly, and to hold a strangers' tea on the first Sunday in each month. WAIHI. [I»Y TELEGRArH. — OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Waihi, Monday. At the Police Court this morning (Mr. W. M. Wallnutt, J.P., presiding) a Maori named Witeri was convicted of drunkennee*, and fined 2s, with costs. At a general meeting of members of the Waihi Miners and Workers' Union on Saturday evening (Mr. W. E. Parry, president, in the chair) it "was decided to refer the question of having a paid president to a ballot of members at the annual meeting on the first Saturday in August. A motion was adopted regretting the loss of Mr. Hogg, late Minister for Labour, from the Cabinet, and complimenting him on his general attitude towards the workers of the Dominion. No. 3 Ohinemuri Rifles fired the first round on Saturday for Sergeant Gardiner's trophy at 200 yd« and 600 yds. Private Draffin (scratch) won with the good score of 63 points. ROTORUA. [from OCR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Rotorua, Monday. The Debating Society, under the presidency of the Rev. Mr. Tisdall, is having a very successful session, and now numbers over 50 members. As is usual in such societies, most of them are merely listeners. The last meeting was occupied by readings from Shakespere, under the direction of Mr. and Mrs. Birks. Th > Rotorua Brass Band is now taking a fresh lease of life. There is a project : afoot for the erection of a band-room, ( which will be a great convenience, and an incentive for young fellows to join.
