[by telegraph.—own CORRESPONDENT.] Paeboa, Friday. ,A conference between members of the Ofvinernuri River Silting Association and the committee of the Miners' Union was held at llarangahake. The members of the Silting Association explained that they had waited on the Miners' Union so as to remove misapprehension as to the objects of the association. They had no hostility to the minel's, and did not wish to in any way i injure the mining industry- The trouble | caused by mining tailings in rivers had i been dealt with in other places, and they I considered it, could be dealt with here. They wanted the Government to get the best engineering talent to go into the matter, and propou'iid a scheme for saving the farmers' land from damage without hampering the mining l industry. The representatives of the Miners' JJnion stated that they would agree to help the farmers, so long as fVtey did not injure the mining. H the Sill ing Committee could formulate some scheme.' to deal fairly with both industries they v* ould be doing the right thing.
