The Cainbridgo Borough Council met on .Friday evening last, there being present: Messrs., W. F. Buckland (Mayor), 11. T. Tudehopc, 'J. Ferguson, A. Underwood, T. F. Richards, C-. H. Priestley, „S. Lewis, G. Dickinson,* E. 8..Hi11, /and,M. Wells. * ..' ;-/

h The 'Mayor made an explanation in regard to the .forming, arid grading of Dominion "Avenue.' ; Ho. said this work ,was forced on the. Council, arid was not due to caprice oh'the-hart of anyone. The Mayor spoke of the borough balance-sheet as being the "only, reliable source of .information in regard .to "tho .financial, position.- Being : a ,; new", Council,- bo had allowed i them to let" off steam -at the first meeting recently, •but :lin", future ;he trusted members and others who - desired to > criticise -would first consult; the balance-sheet. • On "March 31 last ~theu b ank overdraft .stood at £2970, with no outstanding liabilities.
-' A letter was read from the Treasury on the subject of tho Government's guarantee of the town,:hall" lo::u of £5000, stating that »the application now appeared to be ;in order. It--t now only, remained for. the procedure to bo completed. ..The Department regretted there had ; been, airy. misunderstanding, which was entirely due to advice : r teudercd to the Treasury on the 'question."..' Th© financial. statement showed tho overdraft, at date -as* £i 5347, -including' a sum of over £300 on account of town hall progress payment. '• \ . ' ' /.,;. > A report from the gasworks engineer showed that the percentage of gas unaccounted for was loss than 4 per cent. - The 'town clerk asked to bo relieved of the duties of building* surveyor and inspector of vehicles, It .was decided to offer tho positions to Mr. Bunyard. .; V , ".-■ -HAMILTON. ; // : At a meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council on Friday night a letter from Mr. O. 'M. Fraecr, calling attention to the fact that. drivers cross the old .'traffic bridge at other than a walking pace,, was referred to the police, with a request that, they take action against the transgressors. - .. Mr. C. L. MaeDiarmid wrote that as the. Board ;of Education had now notified Mr. D. Pry that it could not take any further action to acquire » his Domain lease '- for school purposes, tho • Council should purchase the lease with the money collected, which they could, if .they thought fit, hand over to the Hoard of Governors. • Mr. Fry's price was £200. No action/was •taken. ■■■' The committee set up to deal with the, proposed meat regulations recommended that they bo referred to the Municipal Conference, Li they thought ; the matter was not one for a single borough only; but that statutory regulations should':bo put in force throughout the Dominion.
