LEAGUE OF FRONTIERSMEN.
A DISAPPOINTED COMMISSIONER. ' [BY TELEGRAPH.—OWN correspondent.] • Wellington, Wednesday. The Commissioner for the Legion of -i Frontiersmen. (Captain H. Herbert ' Noyes), who came out to New Zealand i two years ago to form a command in this i ■country, is a very disappointed man. ] New Zealand, he informed a Post reporter," is the only country in the British Dominions which has failed to do its part. The legion, it may be explained, consists of scouts, who would be of invaluable service to the army in times of trouble. A course of training and operations is laid down, and the various commands in different countries are officially recognised by the Government, just as the milit""a and volunteers r.re. In the case of manoeuvres usually , held at Eastertime, the scouts would be attached to and work with the forces , During the time Captain Noyes his been in New Zealand he has, he states, persistently endeavoured to get the Government to recognise a corps of the Legion of Frontiersmen, but has failed. The Defence Council thinks there is no necessity for such a corps in New Zealand, and Captain Noyes has now decided to return to England with his mission unfulfilled
