\ . PAEROA.". :■ . - [by TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Paeboa, Wednesday. At the meeting of the Paeroa Domain j Board last night, Mr. E. W. Porritt was elected chairman for the ensuing year, and Mr. VV.^McWaiters was re-elected I hon. secretary. Tho usual quarterly meeting of the Ohinemuri Licensing Committee was held !at noon to-day. Mr. F. J. Burgess, S.M., ! presided, and Messrs. Gavin, Trezise, | Franklin, and Cock were also present. The police reports were favourable, except as to the Kauaeranga Hotel building. It was decided to postpone consideration of the matter'until the annual meeting in June. The chairman thanked the members for the assistance they had given him during their term of office, this being the last meeting of the present committee. The good wishes were reciprocated, and the chairman was accorded a vote of thanks. ;."' . . At the meeting of the Star of Paeroa Lodge of Druids Bio. Fielder was elected Arch-Druid, vice Bro. Searle, resigned Bro. Searle will shortly make a trip round the world. THAMES. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Thames, Wednesday. The Thames County Council met yesterday, Mr. R. W. Bagnall (chairman) presiding. Tenders for road works were accepted as follows :—Thames to Waikawau, 11. A. Plummer, £20; Thames to Waikawau, No. 3, J. W. Rickit, £78 6s 3d Thames to Waikawau, No. 2, R. A. Plummer, £41 Tapu Creek Road, R. Hawkes, £64; Thames- Hikutaia Road, J. W. Rickit, £35 ss; Thames-Hikutaia Road, No. 2, W. Verran, £69 15s; Thames-Hikutaia, No. 3, P. McConnell, £81 10s; Kauaeranga Road, Corby and James, £39 ss. Messrs. Kilgour and Law were appointed to represent the Council on the East Coast Railway Committee. The question of the ferry, over the Thames River was again discussed, and it was decided to adopt the Matatoki site as being the most suitable. An application will be made to the Government for a special grant for the carrying out of the work. WAIHI. [by TELEGRAPH. — CORRESPONDENT.] Waihi, Wednesday. At a sitting of the Magistrate's Court to-day (Mr. F. J. Burgess, S.M., presiding) judgment for plaintiff by default was given in the following instances:-— Hague Smith and Co. v. Joseph Martin, £4 14s 4d,; with casts 10s; same v. A. H. Trembath, £2 10s-7d, with costs lis; same v. G. s Smith and Co., £2 3s 6d, with costs 10s; same v. R. Mac Donald, £5 15s 3d, with costs £1 6s 6d; Fit*Patrick and Say v. Smallman Bros., £2 6s Bd, with costs 12s. Several orders against judgment debtors were made. ' Complete arrangements have been made by the Waihi Friendly Societies' Conference for the annual demonstration to be held on tha recreation ground on Sunday next in aid of the Waihi Hospital funds. The members of the various lodges will assemble at the National Bank corner at 2.30 p.m., and march to the reserve, where several appropriate speeches will be made, and musical items furnished by the Waihi and Waikino Brass Bands, tor the convenience of visitors from Paeroa, Karangahake, aid Waikino, a special train will be run. Given favourable weather, the demonstration should prove most successful. , ■ '~,'.';

- CAMBRIDGE. [from our OWN CORRESPONDENT.] :; The f Cambridge Road Board \ met ,on Saturday, when there were present: Messrs. R. Swayne (chairman), J. Hooker, and G. Booth. Information was received from the Government to the effect that section 69, ; Tamahere parish, had been vested in "the Board as a gravel reserve, and was gazetted as such in the issue of the 14th of last month. The reserve is 6£ acres, situated close to Pickering's Gully. -, It was decided to lease the land for a term of 14 years, the Board reserving the right to take what gravel it requires. A letter was received from the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce, asking the Board to contribute something towards the sum of £26, which the Chamber had guaranteed to raise as the Cambridge share of the deficit on the Waikato exhibit at the Christchurch Exhibition. The chairman said he would rather subscribe himself than spend the ratepayers' money in that way. . It was resolved to defer consideration of the matter. [FROM our OWN CORRESPONDENTS.] WAIMAEINO. V The school teachers ;of the district are to journey to Taihape every Saturday to attend dairy and agricultural classes. Last week saw the departure of Mr. C. J. Mackenzie (assistant engineer) and moat of the Public. Works staff. Mr. Mackenzie has resided in Ohakune for the past five months, and is now leaving to take up duties on the Stratford line. *. Twelve months ago the Pukekaha. school was burnt down through bush fires, and so far the Wanganui Education > Board has made no move to erect another. About 20 children therefore have to go without schooling. There is a very strong feeling on the settlers' part against the Board, and at a public meeting it was decided to bring the matter under the notice of the Minister for Education and the Prime Minister. ■-,:;■ >..': ■■;.,V ■■-. MATAMATA. On February 24 All Saints' Church was well filled by the relative* and friends of the bride and bridegroom .on the occasion of the marriage of Miss Hilda Green, eldest daughter of Mr. Charles Green, of Matamata, to Mr. S. Ellery, of Ilinucra. The Rev. P. Cleary, of Te Aroha, officiated. The bridesmaids were Miss Emily Green and Miss Ellery. The bride was given away by her father. After the wedding breakfast at the residence of the bride's parents had been partaken of, and the large number of wedding presents admired, the happy couple departed by the Rotorua express on their honeyboon. Mr. and Mrs. Green entertained a large number of young people in the evening. As four weeks have passed without rain the district is very dry, and the milk supply is steadily decreasing. Fires in the swamps and clearings are now more frequent. PUKEKOHE. A very pleasant' evening was spent, in the Pukekohe Wesleyun Church last Tuesday evening on the. occasion of a farewell social tendered to Mr. W. Porter, of Auckland, who has disposed of his business, and is leaving the district. Mr. Porter has acted in the capacity of a local preacher in the Wesleyan circuit for eight years. Mr. T. G. Usher, as chairman, and on behalf of the Church and friends, presented Mr. Porter with a purse of sovereigns, and tendered him the* most hearty wishes of the congregation. Messrs. G. Pycroft and C. T. Barriball supplemented the chairman's remarks. Mr. Porter suitably replied. Several items were contributed, including a recitation, by Mr. Jas. Blake, a song by Mr. Johnson, and three items by the choir. Refreshments were supplied by the ladies ,
