Melbourne, last week, that was strikingly reminiscent of bygone davs, before the ranks of sailing ships were thinned' tv the serious competition of steam. Ridini; comfortably at anchor off Tort Melbourne and Williamstown, nine large " wind-jammers, ail of them noted Australian traders, lent an aspect of unusual briskness to the bay. occasionally teveral sailers may be seen lying there, but th; presence of nine, together is an event of great rarity which has not occurred for many vears. Of the group seven were new- arrivals, fully laden with cargo, principally lumber, whilst the' remaining --wo, the Loch Garry and Loch Katrine, were empty, but will now go on the loading berth. _ NEDERLAND'S FROIRACTED VOTAGE. Anxiety for the wellbeiug of the Dutch ship Nederland was dispelled by her arrival at Port Phillip >Hcads last week. When the vessel reached Hobson's Bay it was ascertained that her long voyage of 144 days from Frederickstadt was due entirely to adverse winds in the earlier stages. It was only on the 31st day following her departure from Frcderickstudt that the. vessel crossed the equator. Several of the crew were found bv Dr. Hector R. Maclean, health officer, to be suffering from beri-beri fever when the ship ar- !" rived at Melbourne. THE WIMMERA.
