— ♦ SUPPOSED OVERDOSE OF MORPHIA. The circumstances surrounding the death of Dr. Orford Jones, which took place on Friday night necessitated the opening of an inquest at the hospital on Saturday morning. Dr. Jones, who was adjudicated a bankrupt several months ago, occupied looms in Upper Queen-street, for some ten. weeks past. On Thursday evening he appeared to to somewhat low-6pirited, and at about eight o'clock his landlady, in compliance with his request, gave him a glass of milk. He was then in bed. On going rate his room with a cup of tea on New Year's morning, the landlady found the doctor sound asleep and did not disturb him. An hour or so. later she noticed that ho was still asleep, but the circumstance did not occasion her any alarm until, later in the day, on endeavouring to awake him, she was unable to do so. She willed in her husband, but his efforts were also of ': no avail, and Dr. Murray was sent for. Dr. Murray, upon his arrival, at once ordered Dr. Jones' removal to the hospital, where he expired a few hours later. .The examination of the body showed that Dr. Jon.-s died from an overdose of some drug, apparently morphia. -At the inquest on Saturday, only formal *j-idence as to identification was given, and th « inquiry was thou adjourned until 10 *-m. on the 13th inst.
