GIRL JUMPS OVER A CLIFF.
A gtrt, of 17, named Olive Smith, latelyliving with her stepfather, Mr. John Simpson, in Castlereagh-street, committed suicide on the 14th inst. (says the Sydney Morning Herald) by throwing herself head foremost over* the top of the cliffs at Ben Buckler, Bondi. Her body- was subsequently found on the rocks below, terribly mutilated. The actual tragedy was witnessed by Mr. Thos. M. Rose, of Roseville, Bondi. Road, Bondi, who was standing in front of his residence, at five a.m., looking through a pair of field glasses. He saw the figure of a woman silhouetted against the sky about a mile away. She was standing near the edge of the cliffs in the vicinity of Ben Buckler Point, and, as Mr. Rose was watching her, she moved forward to the brink and gazed over at the rocks below. She then drew back and disappeared behind some bushes, from which she . reappeared shortly afterwards. After another furtive glance over the edge she walked slowly backwards about a dozen paces, and, running quickly forward, hurled herself- over the edge of the cliff. ;--
