DROWNED WHILE BATHING.
[BY TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Gisborne, Monday. Intimation was received to-day of a drowning fatality at Hangaroa, Poverty Bay. Cecil Bentham, a lad aged 20, son of Mr. Robinson Bentham, mercer, of Dunedin, got out of his depth while bathing, and was drowned before a companion could reach him. The body was subsequently recovered. Deceased was a cadet on the Hangaroa Station. A NARROW ESCAPE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wangant/i, Monday. A narrow escape from drowning occurred at Castled iff beach yesterday afternoon. A young man named U. Brown got out of his depth, and was disappearing a third time when a companion named E. 0. Spear, eprang in and rescued him.
