THE SQUADRON.

FOUR WARSHIPS IN PORT. H.M. warships Challenger and Cambrian, J| belonging to the Australasian squadron, i reached port on Saturday morning and took ' tip anchorages in the man-o'-war ground. Both vessels arrived in the Hauraki Gulf two or three days ago, the former from w; Port Chalmers and the latter from Sydney. ; ; ' : ;- During their stay in the gulf both warships ' , were engaged in some useful heavy gun practice. . The flagship (H.M.S. Powerful) will take in bunker coal from the Union Company's steamer Koromiko to-day. The vessels now at Auckland, which yon-..-;-:'Bist of the Powerful, Challenger, Cambrian, and Pegasus, will remain in port until after the holidays. The Powerful will remain here until January 8, but the time of the departure of the other vessels has not yet , been fixed. The squadron after leaving Auckland v. will stay at Sydney for about a week, and will then spend about two months at Hobart. Admiral Sir Richard Poore and Lady Poors are staying at the Grand Hotel, Lady . * Poore having arrived from Wellington by the express on Saturday evening. Myers) and the town clerk (Mr. H. W. Wilson) paid an oflicial visit to Admiral Sir Richard Poore on the flagship on Saturday morning.
